Namuwongo Blazers have appointed Spanish coach Luis Lopez Hernandez as head coach ahead of the 2026 Road to the Basketball Africa League tournament. The two-time National Basketball League champions of Uganda will host the qualifying group at Hoima City Arena from October 21 to 25.
Hernandez has already held training sessions with the available local contingent as preparations gather momentum. The Blazers said several players remain on holiday and that recruits are expected to join the squad before tip-off.
The new coach brings continental experience, having previously worked with Ferroviaro de Beira in the BAL and, most recently, with Kepler Women in Rwanda. His appointment comes after the side fell short in their previous attempt to progress through the Road to BAL qualifiers.
With home-court advantage secured, the Namuwongo outfit must now navigate the preliminary stage to keep their ambitions of reaching Africa's premier club basketball competition alive.
