Congolese centre Jean-David Muila Mwaka has signed with Vienna in the Austrian first division, continuing a European career that has already taken in Norway, the Netherlands and Lithuania. Vienna play in both the Basketball Champions League and the ABA League this season, offering the former Southern Illinois Salukis player two continental stages to test himself.

Since arriving, Muila Mwaka has featured twice in European competition and is awaiting his league debut. Last season he played for the Niagara Rivers Lions in the Canadian top flight alongside compatriot Elijah Lufile, after opening the campaign with Nevezis in Lithuania. Vienna is his fourth on the continent, following spells at Froya Basket in Norway and Den Helder in the Netherlands.

His path through championships of varying levels has shaped a centre able to adapt to different styles of play. The Austrian move adds regular Champions League and ABA League minutes to that experience, with the dual European fixture list offering a faster rhythm for a big man prepared to manage the physical load.

Muila Mwaka developed his game in the NCAA before turning professional, a background that European clubs often value for its defensive grounding and work discipline.
