Namuwongo Blazers head coach Luis Lopez Hernandez has backed his squad's fighting spirit as the Ugandan champions gear up for the Road to the Basketball Africa League (BAL) tournament at Hoima City Arena from 21 to 25 October.

Appointed to lead the side during the qualifying campaign, the Spanish tactician said he is encouraged by the attitude of his players despite the limited preparation window. "I like the team. They have a fighting spirit and are so enthusiastic, and I am impressed with their positive attitude. We can build a great team with this attitude. The problem is that we don't have a lot of time, but I am really impressed," Lopez said.

After three training sessions, Lopez expressed satisfaction with how quickly the players are adapting. "I am happy to work with smart players. They are improving every day, and I am glad to work with such a group," he added.

The two-time National Basketball League winners face a tough task in Hoima, drawn in Group D alongside Urunani BBC of Burundi, Patriots of South Sudan, Ushindi of Comoros and COSPN of Madagascar. Lopez said limited information on opponents means his immediate focus is on strengthening his own squad and instilling tactical discipline.
