Ivorian Vice President Tiemoko Meyliet Koné received a delegation from NBA Africa on the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly. The delegation was led by Clare Akamanzi and included Amadou Gallo Fall, president of the Basketball Africa League (BAL), and Joakim Noah, the former Chicago Bulls NBA player.
Discussions focused on basketball as a driver of economic development, social inclusion and opportunities for young people. Koné said he welcomed NBA Africa's expressed willingness to work closely with the Ivorian Basketball Federation and the Ministry of Sports to develop the national basketball ecosystem.
Ivorian basketball has been gaining ground on the international stage, with the country lifting the African U16 title in 2025 and the U18 title in 2026. The Vice President, a known basketball enthusiast, previously hosted the U18 African champions at his residence after their triumph.
