Oso Ighodaro is positioning himself as a candidate to take over the Phoenix Suns' starting centre position while Mark Williams remains sidelined. The 24-year-old could give Phoenix a different skill set from Khaman Maluach, particularly as the team searches for natural creators in parts of its rotation.
Ighodaro's ability to read defences and set up teammates has made him effective in handoff situations, where he finds cutters moving toward the basket. He also serves as a capable screener in the pick-and-roll, creating space for Phoenix's guards and wings. Defensively, his mobility would give the Suns more flexibility to switch assignments.
Maluach, however, retains clear advantages in size and rim protection, while Ighodaro does not offer the same scoring punch, a factor that could count against him in the decision. Ighodaro has spent two seasons with the Suns, averaging 5.5 points and 4.5 rebounds across 143 regular-season games.
