Joel Embiid has reported to Philadelphia 76ers training camp in peak condition, head coach Nick Nurse has confirmed. After several summers spent managing injuries, the 32-year-old centre looked noticeably leaner at media day and has taken part fully in early sessions.
"He looked great. Very good news from the standpoint of where it's been the last couple years," Nurse said. Embiid echoed that confidence, calling this summer "good" and his first in years without major physical concerns. "First summer I didn't have to do worry about a lot of stuff. So it was just getting my mind right, my body right," he said.
Embiid's new teammates, including guard Anfernee Simons, have been impressed by his approach. "Everybody's been impressed around here about how he's came in and worked," Simons said.
The 76ers upgraded their roster over the offseason with the additions of LeBron James and Jaylen Brown, raising expectations that a healthy Embiid could anchor a deep Philadelphia run.
