Namuwongo Blazers have added young guard Edrine Ekau to their squad for the upcoming Road to the Basketball Africa League (BAL) tournament, with the player set to feature in the Under-21 category. Coach Steven Escodato confirmed the move, insisting Ekau will play rather than simply travel with the team.

"He is not just escorting the team. We want him to play because we look at him as a national team player," Escodato said. He added that he is ready to support head coach Luis Lopez Hernandez in helping Ekau develop and seize the opportunity.

The two-time National Basketball League champions have turned to Ekau after his strong season with Rezlife Saints, where his shooting form underlined his readiness for top-level competition. Spanish tactician Lopez Hernandez has been appointed to lead the Blazers' campaign as they look to go further than in their previous Road to BAL outing.

The Blazers will host the qualifying tournament at Hoima City Arena from October 21 to 25, giving them home advantage in the push to reach the Elite 16 stage of the Road to BAL.
