Doudou Ndoye, a power forward with AS Douanes, died on Thursday 8 October at Hôpital Principal de Dakar after several days in a coma. He is the third victim of a serious road accident that occurred on the night of Sunday 20 September, following the deaths of Mouhamed Diouf and Momar Marigo.
The three players had been returning from a basketball tournament with several friends. Mouhamed Diouf, known as "MD", played as a point guard for ASC Ville de Dakar, while Momar Marigo featured for US Gorée. The Senegalese Basketball Federation confirmed Ndoye's death on the same day and offered its condolences to his family, his club and his teammates.
The earlier deaths had already shaken Senegalese basketball. Moustapha Gaye, technical director of ASC Ville de Dakar, had described Mouhamed Diouf as "a very polite, disciplined and hardworking young man". A teammate at the Cité Gabon said "c'est toute une génération qui est partie" — an entire generation is gone. Diouf and Marigo had started their careers together at Saltigué.
