BC Molokaï booked their place in the semi-finals of the 43rd Coupe du Congo of basketball on Friday 25 September at the gymnase jumelé in Kinshasa. The Kinshasa side overpowered BC Mariapolis of Lualaba 81-53, securing a historic qualification twelve years after their last appearance at this stage of the competition.
The "Villageois" of Molokaï were driven on by their home crowd and broke down the Kolwezi side with relentless offensive pressure, leading 37-29 at half-time after quarter scores of 19-17 and 18-12. Disciplined on defence and ruthless on the counter-attack, Molokaï pulled clear after the break, taking the third quarter 21-16 and the fourth 23-8 to seal a comfortable win.
This run marks a return to prominence for Molokaï, whose previous national semi-final was the 4th edition of the modern Coupe du Congo in 2013.
The road to the final now leads to a meeting on Saturday with BC Bahari of North Kivu, the tournament's surprise package who knocked out defending champions BC Sctp.
