The Basketball Africa League has announced the renovation of six basketball courts across Africa, four of them in Senegal, as part of NBA Africa's goal to build or refurbish 1,000 courts on the continent over the next ten years. The Senegalese sites are in Saint-Louis, Joal, Dakar and Guédiawaye.

The first court was inaugurated on 30 September at the Université Gaston Berger in Saint-Louis for students and local residents. In Joal on the Petite Côte, a freshly renovated court will serve the fishing community's youth. In Dakar, a court opened on the Atlantic coast in partnership with the City of Dakar, fitted with a new scoreboard and fencing, and was followed by the final of the BAL City Run, a neighbourhood tournament bringing together 12 local teams.

On 30 October, Guédiawaye will host the first BAL4HER court in Africa, a covered complex for basketball, volleyball and handball designed to grow women's and girls' participation, complete with renovated changing rooms and spaces for leadership, health and nutrition workshops. In Côte d'Ivoire, a renovated facility at the Groupe scolaire Lac in Abidjan's Koumassi neighbourhood is expected to host nearly 3,000 players a week, including 2,500 pupils, alongside a programme for 300 girls aged 18 and under drawn from eight schools. A second BAL4HER court is slated for December in Owerri, Nigeria, backed by WNBA two-time All-Star and BAL ambassador Chiney Ogwumike and her Queens of the Continent organisation.

"These newly renovated courts demonstrate our commitment to investing in communities and making basketball more accessible to young people across Africa," said BAL president Amadou Gallo Fall. The Dakar-based BAL, which brings together 12 African clubs, finished its sixth season in May 2026.
