Libya's Al-Ittihad basketball team has secured a place in the second round of the qualifiers for the 2027 Basketball Africa League (BAL) after winning all three matches in the opening round hosted in Tripoli.

Al-Ittihad finished top of their group with a perfect record, concluding their campaign with a 74-67 victory over Mali's Stade Malien. They had earlier beaten Algeria's Staoueli 93-69 and Creole Star 86-66 to finish unbeaten with six points.

Staoueli also advanced to the second round after finishing second with five points. Libyan Basketball Federation President Saleh Al-Jamaei praised Al-Ittihad's performance and the club's organisation of the western division qualifiers held in Tripoli from 21 to 23 October.

Al-Jamaei said the hosting demonstrated Libya's ability to stage major African basketball competitions. Al-Ittihad now turns its attention to the second round of qualifying as it bids for the BAL 2027 finals.
