Tunisian point guard Omar Abada is revelling in his time with Rivers Hoopers after guiding the Port Harcourt-based side to the 2026 Nigeria Premier Basketball League title in front of their home fans.
The KingsMen wrapped up the championship with a game to spare at the Final Four in Port Harcourt, first dismantling Gboko City Chiefs 88-76 before edging Maktown Flyers 92-90 in overtime. Abada, 33, had joined the side ahead of the Final Eight and played a central role in their unbeaten run.
He was named to the NPBL Final Five alongside Hoopers teammates Abel Offia, the MVP, and Peter Olisemeka, with Gboko City Chiefs' Thomas Marcus and Aso Hawks' Paul Dibal completing the league's best five.
"I am happy to win this championship title and qualify for the BAL. I was motivated by the project," Abada said. "The team wanted to win the title and I play basketball to win, so I really answered the request."
On the continental stage, Abada helped Tunisia lift the FIBA AfroBasket trophy in 2017, including the final victory over Nigeria, and featured again in the 2021 triumph, earning an All-AfroBasket First Team spot. He also led the BAL's inaugural 2021 season in assists for US Monastir's run to the final and most recently averaged 18.75 points, 7.6 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game for Club Africain in the 2026 BAL.
